Mr Oliver Jones DM FRCS (Gen) : Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon

Mr Oliver Jones has been appointed a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust. He previously held a Consultant Post at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Foundation Trust. He qualified in 1995 from the University of Oxford.

He undertook junior doctor training in Oxford, Glasgow, Cambridge and London, including St Mark’s Hospital. We was awarded a DM degree for his research into mechanisms of faecal continence and defaecation, their disorders and treatment. This research won prizes including the BJS Prize at the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI), the Norman Tanner Prize at the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and culminated in election as a Hunterian Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005. He has published a book and over fifty journal articles and book chapters.

He undertook his registrar training in the Wessex region including two years at Basingstoke, known for its expertise in the rectal cancer surgery and advanced malignancy. He spent a Fellowship year at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia, world renowned for its place at the forefront of laparoscopic (key-hole) colorectal surgery. He is now a national laparoscopic trainer.

Mr Jones is currently on the Councils of the Sections of Surgery and Coloproctology at the RSM. His interests include complex laparoscopic surgery, diverticular disease and the surgical treatment of haemorrhoids including HALO.

Mr Jones works within the Oxford Colorectal Partnership with Mr Chris Cunningham and Mr Ian Lindsey to provide comprehensive, high quality, sub-specialist care within the fields of general and colorectal surgery. Mr Jones sees NHS and private patient both in Oxford and Banbury.
